[뉴스피크] 사단법인 수원민주화운동계승사업회(이사장 전영찬)는 6월 5일(토) 오후 3시부터 6.10민주항쟁 34주년 기념식을 수원시 팔달구 인계동 소재 경기아트센터 야외공연장에서 개최했다.

기념식에는 전영찬 이사장, 황인성 전 노무현정부시민사회수석, 유용근 전 국회의원, 이기우 전 국회의원, 수산 스님(대승원주지), 이주현 목사(매원감리교회), 김주형 수원호남향우회장, 수원지역시민사회단체 대표 및 실무자 등 90여명이 참여했다.

조석환 수원시의회 의장을 비롯해 장정희 의원, 최찬민 의원 황경희 의원 등도 함께 참여해 6월 항쟁 계승과 민얀마 민주주의 응원을 다짐했다.

특히 기념식에서는 "6.10민주항쟁의 정신으로 미얀마의 민주주의를 지지한다!"는 성명서 낭독(유문종 수원2049시민연구소 소장/ 윤준서 수원청소년평화나비회장)을 통해 미얀마 민중들에 대한 연대의 뜻을 표명했다.

성명은 "대한민국 사회가 군부독재로 아픔을 겪을 때 국제사회의 지원으로 큰 힘을 얻은 경우가 많았고, 80년 5월에도 87년 6월에도 최근 2018년 촛불국면에도 외국 언론을 시작으로 각종 온라인 등을 통해 전 세계 민주시민들의 연대활동을 직접 피부로 느낄 수 있었으며, 지금의 미얀마 민주화를 지원하는 것은 민주시민의 책무이며 함께 해야 할 의무이기도 하다"고 강조했다.

이번 성명서는 한글과 영문으로 번역하여 유투브와 언론사에 전달할 예정이라고 밝히며, 국제 사회의 동참을 호소했다.

행사에서는 또한 '제8회 수원민주사랑어울림'(수원지역에서 그 동안 민주화를 위해 애써 오신 인사들의 민주화를 위한 열정과 자기희생정신을 기리고 그 뜻을 이어가고자 마련된 자리)을 통해 시민사회단체 원로들에게 꽃을 달아주며 감사의 뜻을 전하기도 했다.

행사장 주변으로 1987년 6월항쟁 사진전(다이나믹코리아)을 비롯해 미얀마 민주시민을 위한 미술전(이오연, 이주영, 이해균, 정세학, 한상호, 차진환, 박일훈)과 민주화의 기록 전시물 등 100여점을 선 보였다.

사진전은 6월 7일부터 수원시청 로비에서 6월 14일부터는 수원역 AK플라자 3층에서 각각 1주일씩 전시(총괄 배봉균)된다..

[성명서] 6.10민주항쟁의 정신으로 미얀마의 민주주의를 지지한다!

1987년 6.10민주항쟁은 대한민국의 민주주의 기초를 다지는 시민혁명이었으며, 3.1 독립운동으로 시작된 민주공화국의 역사에서 백성이 주인 되는 주권을 되찾고자 일어선 국민들의 오랜 열망이 만든 승리의 역사였다. 당시 16년 만에 대통령 직선제를 쟁취해 냈고 삼권분립의 민주주의 기본 체제를 갖춘 오늘날의 헌법을 복원하게 되었다.

오늘 6.10민주항쟁 서른네 돌을 맞이하여 이 땅에 꽃을 피운 민주주의 소중함을 다시 한 번 되새기고 위태로운 위기의 순간에 목숨을 지켜내듯 촛불을 들고 광장으로 나와 민주주의를 지켜낸 위대한 시민들과 그 역사적 과정에서 스러져간 수많은 민주열사를 함께 기억하고 추모한다.

사상 유례가 없었던 코로나 바이러스 사태를 극복하는 과정에서 우리는 성숙한 협력과 연대의 정신을 유감없이 보여주었다. 대한민국의 투명한 민주주의 체질이 코로나 방역 모범을 만들었다는 평가를 받으며 경제지표들도 빠르게 회복되고 우리의 민주주의는 더 크게 더 튼튼하게 뿌리 내리고 있다.

이제 우리 국민은 새로운 시대로의 전환을 준비하며 국제 사회에서 어려움에 처해있는 이웃들에게도 관심과 연대의 손을 내밀어 인권과 자유와 평등의 인류애를 실천해야 할 때 미얀마에서 벌어지고 있는 작금의 사태에 우려를 표하지 않을 수 없다.

동서고금을 막론하고 민주주의를 요구하는 시민의 평화적 행동에 국민이 내는 세금으로 지탱되는 군부가 시민에게 총부리를 겨누고 폭력적으로 유혈 진압하는 행위는 결코 용납될 수 없는 일이다.

과거 전 세계 여러 나라는 이러한 시민저항과 민주화 과정을 거쳐 각자 오늘의 민주주의를 탄생시켰으며 현재까지 그 민주주의적 질서를 지키고 있다. 하지만 미얀마 사태를 지켜보는 세계인들과 인권을 생각하는 대다수 인류는 미얀마 군부의 반인륜적인 행태에 분노하며 즉각 중단해야 한다고 목소리를 높이고 있다.

작년 11월 치러진 총선에서 패배한 미얀마 군부는 선거결과에 불복하고 부정선거 의혹을 내세워 군부 쿠데타를 일으켰다. 군부는 2021년 2월 아웅산 수치 국가 고문과 윈 민 대통령을 체포하고, 집권 여당인 민주주의민족연맹(NLD) 고위 인사들을 구금하고 비상사태를 선포하였다. 이러한 군부의 쿠데타에 저항하여 미얀마 시민들은 민주화를 열망하며 분연히 일어나 목숨을 내건 반군부 투쟁에 나선 시민들에 대해 전쟁을 하듯 각종 중화기로 무장한 군과 경찰의 살인적 시위진압에 의해 사망자 부상자의 수는 헤아리기도 힘든 숫자를 기록하는 가운데, 군부는 농촌지역으로 게엄령을 확대하였다.

남녀노소를 가리지 않는 군과 경찰의 자국민에 대한 무자비한 살상은 즉각 멈추어야 할 것이다.

매일 보도되는 미얀마 군부의 잔혹한 만행과 그 만행에 희생당한 민주화 시위대의 끔찍한 모습들은 세계인들의 분노의 대상이 되고 있는 가운데 국제사회의 개입에 대한 목소리가 높아지고 있다.

대한민국 사회가 군부독재로 아픔을 겪을 때 국제사회의 지원으로 큰 힘을 얻은 경우가 많았다. 이는 1980년 5월에도 1987년 6월에도 최근에는 2018년 촛불국면에도 외국 언론을 시작으로 각종 온라인 등을 통해 전 세계 민주시민들의 연대활동을 직접 피부로 느낄 수 있었다. 지금의 미얀마의 민주화를 지원하는 것은 민주시민의 책무이며 함께 해야 할 의무이기도 하다. 인권과 민주주의 가치를 공유하는 전 세계 평화애호 시민들의 목소리를 담아 우리는 다음과 같이 주장한다.

- 미얀마군과 경찰은 살인적 시위진압을 즉각 중단하고 자국민의 평화를 보장하라.

- 유엔과 국제사회는 미얀마 사태에 적극 개입하여 미얀마 국민의 인권을 보호하라.

[A MANIFESTO supporting Myanmar]

We support Myanmar's pro-democracy movement in the spirit of the Korea June Uprising!

The June 10 Democratic Uprising in 1987 was a civil revolution that laid the foundation for democracy in the Republic of Korea. And it was a history of victory created by Koreans' long desire to regain sovereignty of the people in the history of the Democratic Republic, which began with the March 1 Independence Movement.

At that time, we revived the direct presidential election system after 16 years and restored today's constitution with the basic democratic system of separation of powers.

In celebration of the 34th anniversary of the June 10 Democratic Uprising, we remind ourselves of the preciousness of democracy blooming on this land. And we remember the great citizens who defended democracy by taking to the streets with candles in hand at the critical time of crisis. Also, we commemorate together the numerous democratic martyrs who lost their lives in the history of anti-government protests.

Now, we are preparing for a new era – the time to reach out to our neighbors in need in the international community and practice the humanity of human rights, freedom and equality. We cannot help but express our concern about what is happening in Myanmar.

It is never acceptable for the military, which is operated by taxpayers' money, to point guns at citizens and violently suppress them in peaceful actions calling for democracy anytime, anywhere throughout history.

Historically, many countries around the world have built today's democracy through civil disobedience and democratization movement. Until now, they have maintained their democratic order.

The world's citizens watching the Myanmar crisis, especially people caring about the human right, are angry at the military's anti-humanitarian behavior and are calling for an immediate halt.

Myanmar's military, which lost last November's general elections, staged a military coup against the election results and accused them of rigged elections.

The military arrested Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win min in February 2021, detained senior members of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD) and declared a state of emergency.

In protest of the military coup, Myanmar's citizens have been risking their lives to fight for democracy but the military expanded its ban on rural areas, recording incalculable numbers of casualties due to the heavy-arm army and police crackdowns.

Military and police should immediately stop killing their own people regardless of age or gender.

The daily reports of brutal atrocities by Myanmar's military and the horrific images of pro-democracy protesters victimized by the atrocities have raised calls for international intervention amid anger among the world.

When Korean society suffered from military dictatorship, it was often greatly strengthened by the support of the international community.

As in May 1980 and June 1987, recently, even in the candlelight phase in 2018, it was possible to directly feel the solidarity activities of democratic citizens around the world through various online media and foreign media.

It is the responsibility of democratic citizens and the duty to support the democratization of Myanmar now.

With the voices of peace-loving citizens around the world who share human rights and democratic values, we argue that:

- Myanmar's military and police should immediately stop the crackdown and promise peace for its people.

- The United Nations and the international community should actively intervene to protect the human rights of the people of Myanmar.
